About Us
The Magpie Story
In Chinese and Korean folklore the magpie is called the “bird of joy” and “happy magpie” and is considered a symbol of happiness and good fortune. It is believed that chattering magpies deliver good news and foretell the arrival of cherished guests.
Counting magpie flocks have long been thought to foretell the future of births, weddings and wealth. There are many old-age rhymes that refer to this magpie predictor. Our favorite version of the rhyme reads:
One for tomorrow, two for joy,
Three for a girl, four for a boy,
Five for silver, six for gold,
Seven for a secret never to be told,
Eight for a wish, nine for a kiss,
Ten for a time of joyous bliss.

Our Story
In 1999, Rebecca and Kathleen met while working in Boston, and as young professional, twenty-somethings they bonded over cocktails and nightlife in the big city. As the years went by, they moved from the dating scene, to married life, to parenthood and family life, and then as life was flying by, they were bitten by the entreprenurial bug in 2007.
The Happy Magpie was founded on the "peanut butter and jelly" or "milk and cookies" concept... as in, what goes better together? Our twist on that harmonizing question... "motherhood and organic", make the perfect pair. The Happy Magpie's purpose is to offer pregnant mothers and babies a stylish, comfortable and affordable option for a more healthy and natural lifestyle. We're inspired by mothers helping Mother Nature for generations to come!
